Malta’s Under 19 national team yesterday beat Cyprus 20-5 in the first match in the Mediterranean (COMEN) tournament being held in Larnaca, Cyprus.
Malta, under the guidance of coach Anthony Farrugia, were technically superior, even in their swimming, and won all sessions, 7-0, 4-2, 4-1 and 5-2.
Malta’s scorers were Jordan Camilleri (6), Michael Spiteri Staines (3), Christian Cluett (3), Dino Zammit (3), Zachary Mizzi (2), Jean Claude Cutajar (1), Michael Cordina (1) and Sebastian Cini (1).
Malta’s next match is this evening against Greece and tomorrow against Egypt in the morning and against Italy in the afternoon.
The other participating Mediterranean countries are Italy, who just been crown European Champions in their category in Stockholm, Greece, Cyprus and Egypt.
Maltese international Waterpolo referee Alex De Raffaele has been chosen to accompany the ASA water polo team and to officiate games during this tournament.
